INSIDE, THE PATRONS ARE SITTING AT TABLES WITH PAPER COFFEE CUPS IN FRONT OF THEM TALKING WHEN PETE CORTLANDT IS ON HIS CELL PHONE.

(on his cell phone)
Yeah I wanted that report yesterday.  Okay fine.  Just make sure you have it first thing in the morning.

CASSANDRA FOSTER WALKS IN, AND PEOPLE LOOK AT HER AND START WHISPERING.  PETE ALSO LOOKS AT HER. CASSANDRA GATHERS HERSELF AND WALKS TO THE COUNTER.

A GUY WALKS UP TO HER.

GUY
Hey what’s up?

CASSANDRA
Hi.

GUY
You’re lookin’ good.

CASSANDRA
(looking at him quizzically)
Thanks?

GUY
I wanna…get to know you.

CASSANDRA
That’s nice of you but…no thanks.

GUY
Really?  Oh you think you’re too good for me.  You weren’t too good for all the other guys were you?

CASSANDRA
Excuse me?

GUY
Look why don’t you just come back to my place, and do you what you did for those men.

CASSANDRA
I gotta go.

CASSANDRA GOES TO GRAB HER COFFEE WHEN THE GUY GRABS HER ARM.

CASSANDRA
Get off of me!

GUY
You’re nothing but a slut!

SUDDENLY PETE GETS IN BETWEEN THEM.

PETE
Hey I think you need to back the hell up!

CAMERA PAN ON PETE.  SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

SCENE 2

GUY
Oh so you work for her bosses?

PETE
Get the hell outta here man!

GUY
See you around slut.

THE GUY LEAVES AND PETE TURNS TO CASSANDRA.

PETE
You alright? 

CASSANDRA
Yeah I’m…I’ll be fine.

PETE
He’s probably waiting outside or something.  Want me to walk you to your car?

CASSANDRA
No my Uber’s outside.  But thank you.  I’m sorry I brought this…kind of attention to your shop.

PETE
Come on Cass don’t worry about it.

CASSANDRA
  Your mom owns this place and it was named after your father.

PETE
You pay attention.

CASSANDRA
But it seems everyone in Pine Valley knows me.

PETE
Look what happened to you wasn’t your fault.  That jerk wad isn’t worth crap.  Not all of us are like him.

CASSANDRA
(smiling)
Thank you.  Um yeah I gotta get outta here. 

PETE
Your Uber that’s right.

CASSANDRA
I’ll…see you around.

PETE
Don’t be a stranger.

SCENE 3

PETE IS OUTSIDE WALKING WHEN THE GUY WHO HARASSED CASSANDRA, AND TWO OTHERS, APPROACHES HIM.

PETE
What do you want punk?

GUY
Such a tough guy…a hero. 

PETE
You’re an ass.

GUY
Oh you’re gonna wish you hadn’t said that.

ONE OF THE OTHER GUYS SUCKER PUNCHES PETE IN THE FACE.  HE FALLS TO THE GROUND AND ALL THREE GUYS KICK PETE REPEATEDLY.

SCENE 4

AT THE HOSPITAL, DR. JOE MARTIN IS AT THE NURSES STATION WHEN DAVID WALKS UP TO HIM.

JOE
Well if it isn’t Dr. Libidizone himself.

DAVID
It’s one of my many great formulas Dr. Martin.

JOE

Ahhh.  All the good it did.

DAVID
I don’t think I properly congratulated you on your retirement.

JOE
Thank you Dr. Hayward.

JOE TRIES TO WALK PAST DAVID…

DAVID
Maybe you can…return one to me at some point.

JOE TURNS AROUND.

JOE
For what?

DAVID
Oh come on Dr. Martin, you know what I’m talkin’ about.

JOE
No actually I don’t.

DAVID
 The Chief of Staff position of course.

JOE
And why would I be congratulating you?

DAVID
Because the board is deadlocked between me and Angie, and although Dr. Hubbard is an excellent physician, I am clearly the more qualified candidate, but that’s up to you isn’t it, since you have the deciding vote.

JOE
I’m not going to tell you which way I’m voting.  It would be unethical.

DAVID
Oh Dr. Martin, so upstanding as always.  A man who follows hospital policies to the letter, loves and protects his family.

JOE
If you’ll excuse me I have to---

DAVID
Don’t you wanna know how Tad’s doing?

JOE
Tad?  He’s dead.

DAVID
Oh you didn’t hear?

AT JESSE’S, JESSE OPENS THE DOOR AND DIXIE WALKS IN.

Thanks for coming Dixie.

DIXIE

You said you needed me to come right away?

JESSE
I have something for you.

JESSE goes to the counter, picks up a container, and brings it to Dixie.

DIXIE
What is this?

JESSE
It’s…it’s Tad.

DIXIE
What is this supposed to be?  His ashes?

JESSE
Yes. 

DIXIE
When did you get this?

JESSE
Today.

JESSE gently gives the urn to DIXIE.

DIXIE
It’s…this is final.

JESSE
I’m so sorry Dixie.

SCENE 6

JOE
Hear what?

DAVID
It would be nothing short of miraculous.  I know firsthand those happen.  Look at what I did for Stuart Chandler in 2011.

JOE
And Stuart died three days after Adam did.

DAVID
That’s because he had a broken heart.  That twin thing I guess. 

JOE
What’s your point?

DAVID
You said Tad was dead.

JOE
Is this one of your games Hayward?

DAVID
You have to promise me that you won’t breathe a word of this to anyone else.

JOE
Ruth and I have reservations so I have to get going.

DAVID
I know where Tad is.

JOE
What?  Like I said, he’s dead.

DAVID
You’re wrong Dr. Joe.  He’s very much alive, and I can tell you his location, but if you tell anyone it could put everyone in danger.

JOE
Well where is he?

DAVID
Not so fast. 

JOE
Ooooooh I get it.  You want me to cast my deciding in your favor in exchange for you telling me where Tad is?  How do I know you’re not lying? 

DAVID
You don’t.  You’re just gonna have to trust me and...you know what to do with that vote.

DAVID SMILES AND WALKS AWAY.
